even starving artists need holidays...
Won’t be updating for the next week as I will be here: An obscure greek island, to be precise. Phone off, no internet. Oddly enjoy being without those things sometimes. I am taking sketchbooks and some paints so I fully expect to get some art done, although I cant imagine Ill be keeping up with my new ‘8 hours creativity a day’ rule….we’ll see. On my return Ill...

life drawing....
some sketches from last nights life drawing at The Bee’s Mouth, Brighton. Definately worth a go if youre in Brighton. Tuesdays at 7.30, £5 entry (all goes to the model who changes each week). Untutored, so youre free to turn up and draw however you wish.

A short break from self portraits....
..Ive been picked to design a tarot card for the lovely miss amanda palmer by the end of september, so Ive been doing a few portrait studies of her. Just photos at the moment- oils cant be scanned until theyre dry. Ive been using the same technique I applied to my recent moving portraits…oil painting straight onto paper, without pencilling out the drawing first. Its nervewracking...

moving portrait studies: #1
A quick study of a blurred photo, a little way to go yet until Im ready to paint something final: Trying to commit to painting for up to 8 hours a day, and although Im not quite up to that amount yet, I feel I’m getting somewhere. Yes, that is fake, but edible, blood. Golden Syrup + red food colouring. Its sickly sweet, gloopy and horribly sticky… …but I highly recommend...

another practice portrait...
Small oil on canvas: Ill be putting this up on my Etsy shop soon. What do all these self-portraits mean? Good question. I have a love/hate relationship with self portraits…I sometimes think an artist can put more of themselves into a painting of themselves than an outsider. Yet I feel it is difficult to paint an honest portrait of oneself…it becomes all too tempting to paint...

moving portraits...a work in progress
I am part-way through a new painting. Im using slightly different painting techniques this time around…not making my colours too smooth, looking for the colours that are there rather than what I THINK are there…blues, greens and greys instead of peaches and pinks. It’s a self-portrait for now…if it goes well, Im planning on doing a few more of some close friends. Today...

My black heart loves Photoshop all over again...
Now I finally have a scanner at my disposal, I can mix sketches and drawings using Photoshop. Here’s some recent things, which may or may not become bigger things in the future…using a lot of black and monochrome at the moment. An illustration of mine is in this months copy of Knave erotic magazine, check it out. Will be in next months too. It’s a new, more...

'When I felt the bullet hit my heart...'
In order to practice my hand-lettering and sketching, Im doing a mini project, illustrating  lines from my favourite writers’ books. The first is from Kurt Vonneguts Cats Cradle. Ive slightly misquoted, but I prefer it my way. More to come. I read a lot. This weekend I discovered what happens when you leave your fisheye camera on a table at a party…think I may do it on purpose...

some old photo experiments...
I was reminded of these talking to someone yesterday, and thought Id post them. Would love to do something with these one day, but yet to think of anything… Completely unphotoshopped…taken with a cheap digital camera in a bath, whilst washing pink out of my hair. Also, whilst searching for these, I found an old family photo. heh. I am the tiny girl at the front. Love this...
